OCT: Project

OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHY

3D OCT screening diagnoses potentially serious conditions that can affect your eyesight and overall well-being.

What is OCT?

Optical coherence tomography is an advanced eye scan for people of all ages. Similar to ultrasound, OCT uses light to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of your eye. The OCT captures both a fundus photograph and a cross-sectional scan of the back of the eye at the same time.

The scientific stuff!

Using a state-of-the-art 3D OCT camera, we take a digital photograph and a three dimensional cross sectional scan of the back of your eye in one sitting. The scan is non-invasive, painless, simple and quick. What's more, the software can automatically detect even the most subtle changes to the retina with every eye test you take. This gives you an invaluable ongoing record of the health and condition of your eyes.

What can the scan check for?

Common conditions identified through regular OCT screening include:

Age-related macular degeneration, diabetes, glaucoma, macular holes and vitreous detachments.

OUR THOUGHTS ON OCT

"Having used the OCT now for several years, I can comfortably say it is a hugely beneficial piece of technology. I can now accurately refine referrals, give a more complete picture to the patients and to ophthalmologists, who often request the results of the scans from myself. I even have patients coming to me specifically to have OCT as the hospital that they have been under have been unable to do it. It improves my care to the patient no end, and is now an integral part of my sight test."

This is a great example of the kind of service our patients have come to expect from Brian Clark Opticians. Nothing matters more than our patients, and when they return to us  for the second, or third (or tenth) time, we know we’re doing something right.
